Heavy security as Ese Oruru undergoes cross-examination
FOURTEEN-year-old Ese Oruru yesterday resumed her testimony at the Federal High Court, Yenagoa as she was cross- examined by the defence counsel, Mr Kayode Olaosebikan.
One Yunusa Dahiru had allegedly abducted Ese from Bayelsa State and eloped with her to Kano where he impregnated and got her converted to Islam. After public outcry over the development, Yunusa was arrested and Ese returned to her parents in Yenagoa. The suspect is now facing trial while Ese has been delivered of her baby.
Just like when she was led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, James Anata, Justice Ejiya Nganjiwa ordered journalists and her parents out of the Court. Ese, who was brought to court under tight security had her head covered with a brown scarf and was hurriedly ushered into the courtroom.
Armed policemen who have been stationed at strategic locations prevented journalists from taking pictures. Olaosebikan was said to have started the cross-examination and after few questions, Justice Nganjiwa adjourned the matter to Friday July 8th.
Meanwhile there are indications that Yunusa is likely to be granted bail according to Olaosebikan as the processes to perfect his bail conditions were at advanced stage.
“We are still working on the bail and we are trying to perfect the bail conditions. The court is in the process of verifying sureties and we hope that by Monday, he will be out,” Olaosebekan said.
