Commonwealth double sprints champion, Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor,
will fly Nigeria’s flag in three events when hostilities begin at the
2016 Rio Olympics Games. She will take part in the sprints, long jump
and the 4x100m relay.
Okagbare and fastest man in Nigeria, Seye Ogunlewe, top the list of
Team Nigeria athletes released by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria
(AFN) for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games yesterday.
According to AFN head of Media and Communication, Olukayode Thomas,
other athletes to fly the nation’s flag in the women 100m and 4x100m are
Madu Jennifer, Gloria Asumnu, Uko Peace, Osazuwa Agnes, Sanni Zainab,
Francis Cecilia, Khadijat Suleman and Ekpone Olivia.
The women 400m and 4x400m athletes are George Patience Okon, Bamgbose
Margaret, Omotoso Omolara Grace, Regina George, Ajayi Yinka, Ossai Rita
Vivian, Mayungbe Blessing and Sogbesan Ekundayo.
Oluwatobiloba Amusan will compete in the 100m, Amaka Ogoegbunam (400m
hurdles), Doreen Amata (High Jump), Brume Ese (Long Jump), Okoro Chinwe
(Discus), Nwanneka Okwelogu (Shot Put) and Uhunoma Osazuwa
(Heptathlon).
Apart from Ogunlewe, Ogho-Oghene Egwero and Monzavous Edward will be
competing in the 100m, just as Odele Oghenetega and Oduduru Divine are
listed for the men’s 200m.Others are Orukpe Eraiyokan (400m), Anthon
Hicks (110m), Ukaoma Miles (400m), Oke Tosin (Triple jump), Olamigoke
Olumide and Mozia Stephen (Shot Put).
